Hotel La Magione
Our History
A tuscany authentic experience rooted in history: where hospitality, comfort and tradition come together in the heart of Tuscany.
Welcome to Hotel La Magione
La Magione: a name with ancient roots
Hotel La Magione pays tribute to the complex of the Magione di San Giovanni Battista, an ancient Templar hospital along the Via Francigena, the historic route taken by pilgrims bound for Rome.
The Castle of La Magione, documented even before 1140, was one of the many "Domus Templi" tasked with offering rest and hospitality to travellers along their journey. The site included an ancient church and a "hospital" for pilgrims and is considered the most complete medieval hospital complex surviving in Western Europe.
The name "La Magione" therefore reflects not only a geographical link but also a reminder of this ancient calling to welcome others.
A brief history of the hotel
Hotel La Magione and Hotel Alcide
Our family's story in hospitality goes back to Hotel Alcide, an institution that since 1849 has stood for quality and welcome in Poggibonsi. Hotel La Magione is a newer chapter, but we carry forward with pride the same passion for hospitality. This is a genuine tuscany authentic experience: about hotel tuscany family values, quality and personal service. At Hotel La Magione every guest is treated with the utmost care, as part of our long and proud tradition of Tuscan welcome.

The Cuisine: A Journey Through the Flavors of Tradition
Steps from Hotel La Magione, Ristorante Alcide offers one of Tuscany's most authentic dining experiences. Founded in 1849 and still run by the Ancillotti family, the restaurant is rooted in tradition and quality. Renowned for its seafood, Alcide is the ideal place to savour iconic dishes such as Cacciucco alla Livornese and sole with Vernaccia: recipes that tell the Ancillotti family's story. Today Chef Loris continues this tradition, combining classic dishes with contemporary cooking that delights the most discerning palates.
